Lottery Hongkong

Lottery Hongkong is one of the oldest non-profit organizations in the region. It manages horse racing, sports betting and lotteries in addition to other activities.

The lottery was established in 1975 to fight illegal lotteries that were popular in China. Since then it has become a standard part of Hong Kong life and is extremely popular among the local population.

Despite the high odds of winning, there are scores of lucky winners each week who get to share in millions of Hong Kong dollars. The game uses a combination of 6 numbers from a pool of 49 and the number of prizes available vary according to the prize level and number of numbers that are drawn.

In addition to its thrice weekly draws, Mark Six also features special “Snowball Draws” throughout the year. These have much bigger jackpots and attract a higher participation rate.

Snowball pools are a very important part of the Hong Kong Jockey Club’s business model and they provide for the creation of a large jackpot fund. These funds are then used for a variety of social projects and charities.

Besides the thrice weekly draws, there are special Mark Six “Snowball Draws” that take place during various festivals and events. These have larger jackpots than the thrice weekly draws and can be very high, sometimes even reaching the 100 million dollar mark! In these drawings, a percentage of the overall spending is accumulated into the snowball pool and this money is then added to the jackpot fund for that particular draw.
